Description:
Tobacco can square quilt. Hand tied, machine—pieced patchwork quilt. Fabric patches are from cigar cans and boxes and were given by tobacco companies as an incentive for wives to let their husbands smoke. Originally belonged to Mrs. John (Stella) Rizor.
Patches measure approx. 8" X 5". Quilt is tied with red wool yarn, not quilted. Set by machine. Top was brought around to back and hand stitched to finish. Back is a large—print fabric, machine pieced with a solid—color strip at two ends. Batting is a thick cotton.
