Description:
Hand—made quilt. White background with red and orange diamonds making a sunflower type pattern in the center of the quilt. Orange stripes around the edges. Blazing Star (Lone Star) design. Sleeve has been added for hanging. Front: Star is hand—pieced, the star seems to be older than some of the other fabrics. Top is older than back. Newer fabrics have been added along all edges. Machine—quilted (re—done), no evidence of old quilting or tying. Cotton batting. In the very center of the star almost all of the seams are open. Back: Machine—pieced with red cotton and 3 panels of shirting cotton. Date for the original top is 1850—1875. Date for restoration work is most likely 1900—1925.
