Mauve cloth bound book with green and black embossed boarder of decoritive floral patterns (poppies) and a green shild shape with a black overlapped letters: "H & Co". The spine has decorative gold fillagry and lettering that reads: "Sketch Book, Irving", the bottom section of the spine echos the front in design. The back is plain mauve fabric. The cover page has the Carl Adler's Crystal Palace blue—purple stamp. The title has a black and white engraving of Washington Irving adjacent; the page reads: " The Sketch—Book of Geoffrey Canyon, Gent., by Washington Irving, New York: Hurst & Company, Publishers. The pages of the book are a dark color almost like a paper bag and are very textured. A name card was found on page 133.
